How to clean garage floor that I want to paint?
The cement garage floor is dirty, greasy and stained with God knows what! I'm thinking of cleaning it and then painting it. I want to put the house up for sale and going through the garage into the kitchen is the main entry way to the house (convenient). I don't want that floor to be the first thing potential buyers see. If not paint... is there any other options?

Take some blue dawn to the grease spots, scrub. Oxyclean in water to the floor and scrub. You can use the oxy clean as a paste by mixing a small amount of water and let it set. Use a power washer with the oxy in the tank. Be thankfull you don’t have to patch the concrete back together, that was not fun...

In that post I did a (unpaid) review of 2 products to get stains out of concrete! Deep set stains in concrete are definitely hard to get out. Then I would check out Home Depot or Lowes and get some garage coating for the cement. You know the type that has the speckles in it. Something like this:

If you don't want to use that. You could try painting the concrete with some awesome concrete paint. We used a sherwin Williams brand to paint our patio. I show what paint we used in this post:

Good luck!
Cindy...We use Krud Kutter from Lowe's and a pressure washer.
Hi , I would sweep it and wash it thoroughly , the you need to get stain kilz , this will cover stains , I would think you will need 2 coats to cover heavy stains . Then get garage floor paint we used a nice blue gray color and bought the color flakes to go with them , they are only about ten dollars and give the floor a nice wow factor . They are easy to use .. First the instructions on our garage floor paint said to paint the floor going across the garage first , let it dry and paint in in the other direction , lengthwise for the second coat . While doing the second coat , paint it in small sections maybe only 3-4 feet deep at a time , while it is still wet sprinkle the color flakes , as light or heavy as you want . Let it dry ..It looks great !!! There are a few color combinations. We used the blue gray paint a d the flakes were blue , black and white . Good luck !!!
Brake cleaner will get up many oil/car type/mecahnical stains https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5HP0k9IeaQ&t=33s another https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5HP0k9IeaQ&t=33s ; Iron Out for rust ;after stain removal clean well with hot water and Dawn dish soap scrub brush/broom, dry then primer them paint or use tinted cement/mortar primer/paint in one--becareful using power washer if concrete/cement is not in good condition could cause problems that you'll will need to fix.

You can get a power washer to rent, keep some dawn in a squirt bottle for thr really greasy areas. I put oxy clean into the water tank..then gave the place a good rinse.
