The best way I have found ,is to buy already started plants . perhaps a gardening book would also help .
Also get a good variety or maybe two or three types. Different ways to plant. Various ways to stake up plants. Too much to list here. Google some gardening sites and you'll get better and loads of information.

I would highly suggest contacting your cooperative extension. These offices are manned by volunteer master gardeners on site there waiting to answer the communities questions that know your local situation quite well.
Master gardeners are required to volunteer back designated hours ( plus continuing education) each year to maintain MG certification -this community outreach and education is their goal.
When you eat a tomato, always reserve some seeds. If it is a good tomato to your taste, plant the seeds. Start it indoors and take it outdoors when the climate outside is warmer than inside.
