This is not an exact science – approximate measures are totally fine 1 gallon white vinegar and cup Epsom salts and ¼ cup liquid dish soap Combine ingredients in spray bottle and treat weeds at the hottest time of day for best results.
Mulching is the best weed defense I have found but I don't just put down the mulch. I like to put newspaper down first and then mulch. The newspaper helps prevent any seeds and roots that are in the area from coming up. It lets water through and it rots away so that it becomes part of the area. You can also easily dig a hole through it if you want to add a new plant. I have also tried cardboard. It works but is harder to work with around plants. Either way is good in my opinion.
