The shinier the finish the more prep. work needed. No stripping needed, just sand off sheen. Prime and paint. Have fun
No stripping no matter what kind of paint you use. Just lightly sand with 220 grit sandpaper to remove any shine. Wipe down well with a damp cloth. Prime with Kilz primer then paint.
You do not have to sand it if you use chalk paint! Here are my chalk paint tips: https://www.aratariathome.com/blog/chalk-paint-tips
No stripping paint with chalk paint. :). I recommend working with a clean surface. Lightly clean your secretary with a little vinegar and water and you are ready to paint with chalk paint. :)
No stripping or priming needed but make sure you learn the surface first.
