if you have brown yard/field instead of green grass you will need to kill the weeds then fertilize the land to get it green again. If you can give me more info I can try to find better answers
You could go to your local hardware or Home Depot and ask for suggestions for your growing area as well
Go to your local garden centre and purchase nematodes. They will instruct you as to application.
