How to protect rope carpet?
I made a rope carpet and would like to coat it to protect it from getting dirty and easy to wipe ...can I use a urethane coating,,,,,podge ?

It will make it stiff and crunchy. Just spray it with scotchguard.
I might try coating it with a spray urethane. Try a test on a piece of rope first and see how that goes. If you're happy with that outcome try it on the carpet.
I would do a fabric sealer then something like modge podge.
Look at this spray product called Thompsons fabric seal... https://www.thompsonswaterseal.com/waterproofing-products/small-projects/waterseal-fabric-seal. How big is your rug though? You might need a few coats of this to really give a good seal.
