How do I make a fire pit with hand size boulder rocks?
I’m planning to make a fire pit on cement patio area. I just got a bunch of good size rocks & thought instead of cinder blocks, I could use these. Do I need to prep cement before starting? I plan to put mortar, to hold together.

Other then using clean boulder rocks, I wouldn't think so. I made a flower garden that I used large rocks on. Just try your best to keep the rocks clean, after you start attaching them.
Yes you need to prepare your cement according to the number of rocks you have and howbig is your firepit
