How do I help this tree?
A small tree in our yard looks suddenly unwell. The leaves have these spots on them. Any one have an idea? I don’t know what type of tree it is, we live in Central Florida. See pictures for reference.

How do I repair a young tree damaged by a rutting buck?
I had a buck rub off a lot of bark on a young sweet gum tree. He rubbed off the outer bark almost a foot long and got to the inner bark in about a 5-6 inch area.
Mix soap and water. Looks like aphis eating it. A soap and water mixture will get rid of them. I use a lawn sprayer with hose attachment.
I agree with Suzi and recommend a mild dish soap like Ivory.
I'm thinking this looks like mites. You can treat for them in a variety of ways, the 'cleanest' and most effective is to spray something like Neem oil on the leaves (from above and below). It doesn't hurt the tree because it isn't a 'chemical' but it does suffocate the insects. It will also work on aphids and a bunch of other insects. Treat as soon as you can because they multiply quickly in the spring.
I would spray it as soon as possible!
Neem oil is a great multi purpose spray. It is was we use 90% of the time here.
It's a fungal infection due to high humidity and too little sun. There is no treatment other than disposing of diseased leaves when they fall in August. You should thin out the branches for more sun and better air movement.
I agree with the fungal infection. That doesnt look like any mite or aphid damage I have ever seen. However, not so sure about the remedy. I would take a couple of leaves in a baggie (to keep whatever confined) to a garden center and see if anyone there can identify it. Then decide from there if there is a fix. I had a tree service come out for some fungal problems we had that I did not think was fixable. They took care of and we know have gorgeous trees! Good luck!
