    Hi Jac,

Cactus - succulents, Lavender, Tamerax, Iris, Ooh lots of plants too many to mention. I would suggest you go down to your nearest Plant centre and see what they have on offer. I am sure they will be very pleased to help you in your quest. You might even be able to pick up a book on gardening on your type of soil...Enjoy!

Translucent plants do will in dry sandy soil. There are a great many of them available now but we especially love our aloe vera. You might consider Chicks and hens, even cacti if you like them. They can have beautiful flowers too. They are all low maintenance.

I would highly suggest contacting your cooperative extension. These offices are manned by volunteer master gardeners on site there waiting to answer the communities questions that know your local situation quite well.

Master gardeners are required to volunteer back designated hours ( plus continuing education) each year to maintain MG certification -this community outreach and education is their goal.

You can improve your soil in flower beds by adding bags of garden soil, manure, coco peat and mixing well. Organic matter helps the sand hold water and supplies nutrients for growing plants. I use my grass clippings as mulch to keep weeds down in my garden, and it decays and builds better soil.
