How can I cover these corbels?

I need ideas for covering these brick corbels. I love the rest of the fireplace just the way it is, but that is after I painted the mantle. I would try for simple columns, but they would partially cover the opening.

    Paint them white

Try painting the corbels the same color as the mantel and see if that helps. It should make the corbels look like part of the mantel.

  • Maybe. I'm afraid that would draw my eye to it even more. I could try a temporary white paper or something to see how it would look.

    Thanks for the suggestion!

I think I would mount something docorative in that space between the corbels. I would choose something in metal-anything else would be too flammable unless it was a season when you weren't using the fireplace. Hobby Lobby, Michaels, and other craft stores have a nice variety of metal wall hanging that might work there.

  • Thanks for the ideas! I think I am going for something similar to what Gk suggested. I can picture something galvanized hanging between the two.

I have similar corbels that I wanted to clad with wood but am not finding ideas. I like this solution and would go with copper tiles under my unpainted fir mantel shelf of the same size as Andrea’s. My brick is brown under the white paint I’m stripping off. Copper tiles are abundant online.
