The first thing I thought of was putting wheels on it. Maybe pull out a drawer or too and convert to shelves. Then, I would look into painting it with chalk paint. Then add a towel rack on the side somewhere. And either leave the top alone or put in a granite top or butcher block. Anyway, have fun
Mike you can make an iandnoit of most things these days. To ensure it stays nice looking make sure you seal the top to protect the top from moisture. Or put a wooden curing board, tiles etc on top of it.

From the Office Space to the Kitchen Space
Make sure that the height will work for an island. You might have to put feet on it to raise it up. The top of the countertop should be about 34" high. Also, some desks are wider than others, standard cabinets are 24" wide with a 1" over hang all the way around. If you want to have seating then you'll need about a 12" over hang but make sure to support the countertop and you will need to secure it to the floor so it doesn't tip over.
