Hi there, won't ever rot or break a part like a wood garage door and they're generally less expensive so my vote would be metal.
I have had both. Metal wins for me as it doesn't rot and less expensive to replace, if ever. Also less weight when opening and metal can be insulated with panels from any home improvement center.
We went with metal. IF the power is out you don't want to manually lift a wooden door. As you mentioned falling off so rot is a concern on wood. I've had mine over 20 years with no issues at all and they are metal.
Our garage doors are metal and I believe they are better and lighter than wood.
