Yes you could try that but I think it will get in try a drop cloth first
In a past home we owned, we laid an insulation product that had foam and plywood... that insulated the floor and prevented all humidity from having a chance to form. Then we carpeted on top of the plywood. Worked great!! We created the layers, but now there is a product you can buy to do this, and here it is!
First treat/paint the slab with KILZ Restoration Interior Primer, subcoat for flooring and carpets. There are many Kilz primers, make sure you get the correct one for floors. I would probably put a fan in the room for a couple of days to try and dry the floor out before painting it. I used the Kilz on my floor and you just roll it on with a paint roller, very easy to do, way easier than painting a wall. Do a couple of coats and make sure you don't paint yourself into a corner. LOL
We applied a moisture barrier/pad/insulator layer all in one. We will see how it holds up.
