I got some new plants, now I have dead gnats on the window sill?
Most likely fungus gnats. They lay eggs in the soil and the larvae eat the roots. The soil has to dry out to get rid of them, as they like damp soil. There are sticky traps for them. You can also google many methods to try to kill them.
The fungus gnats were in the soil when you bought it and is the most common problem with purchasing plants from grocery stores. When you water, the gnats will come out of the soil and fly around and spread to other plants. You can place some dry sand near the top of your plant as the gnats like it damp. There is also a fungus gnat powder you can purchase to help you eradicate them.
Hi Berma, the best thing I have found for gnats is hot shot no pest strip. I used them when I managed a bar. We would get them from the beer tap. Here is a link to check them out. They carry them at Walmart and Lowes and online.
If they are all dead...………..do nothing...…..maybe hatched out from the nursery you got them from...……….
