How to inexpensively lay padding under bedroom & living room carpet?
I need to find a way to inexpensively lay padding material under bedroom & living room carpets, any suggestions? Anything other than foam? Thanks in advance for suggestions.

Why not try quilting padding or even an old quilt? But be careful not to leave edges sticking up that might trip someone. An old flat sheet can give a little padding. Jewell
Check on craigslist or the local Habitat for Humanity store. (Or other place that sales second hand goods.) I've had luck with that and gotten new rug pads more than once.
Underlay designed for use under carpets is rubberized for the reason of safety. It holds the carpet down, gripping it to the floor underneath. I would caution you against using some other material, just because it is cheaper, if it does not prevent the carpet from shifting or moving.
Serious injuries can be caused by even 'small' slips.
My recommendation is to spend the money on the padding. You can put it down yourself. It's more important than the carpet in my experience. You can get one that is allergy & water proof.
