Hi Crystal, If your shoe rack is one of those with little separated compartments, here's some ideas. Not sure if you have this or one of those metal ones with the wire extensions to hang your shoes. Here goes and I hope this helps.

I put a new over-the-door shoe "rack" with the clear plastic pockets on the inside of my utility room door, separated my sewing thread by color, put into sandwich bags, then put those in the shoe pockets. Works like a charm! My utility room is next to my dining room-office-craft-sewing room and when I need thread, I just lift out the plastic bag and select the color I need. This way the thread stays clean and the plastic shoe pocket is less likely to get torn by trying to reach the thread on the bottom. This type shoe bag would also work on a pantry door, bathroom door or closet door for items related to that space.

All great ideas and thank you so much for all your help. It is a wire shoe rack.
Hi Crystal, I did some more searching and found this post on Hometalk, but we need to keep thinking about other uses for the wire shoe rack. You could perhaps use it in your closet to hang scarves on as well. Hmmm! I'll keep thinking. https://www.hometalk.com/diy/upcycle/q-what-are-some-repurposing-ideas-for-a-metal-shoe-rack-29805802
