Run water into the tub or spray it well with water, then sprinkle automatic dishwasher powder onto the moistened area. Allow to set for 1/2 hour or so. You can re-moisten the areas again with water sprayed onto the dish washing powder. Use a scrubber to thoroughly scrub the sides and bottom of the tub. It should look much better after this process. If stain still remains, try soaking a cloth in peroxide and place on the stained areas and let set for as long as possible and then clean with soapy water and rinse. .
Deborah is the finish off of the tub? Believe it or not peroxide and baking soda is a great cleaner. Time and repeat if necessary.

You can paint your tub with an epoxy paint or you can use a Rustoleum or Giani kit.
I've used the Rustoleum kit and it worked well! Use only in a well-ventilated room as it's pretty smelly!
