How do I update/resurface my faux butcher block countertop?
Hi ! Paint !!! I used Benjamin Moore advance paint and their primer ! I first cleaned the counters using 2 spray products by Krud Kutter , first a de greased then a de glosser , then I lightly scuffed them with a sanding sponge . I wiped up all the dust . Then I used one coat of primer and 2 coats of paint ( you will have a lot of paint left over ) . After 2 years they have held up well . I always use a cutting board and place something under hot pots and pans . Well , last weekend I did something really stupid , since I had no room in my garage to set up a table , I used a miter box to saw a piece of wood , I had covered the counter with a stack of newspaper , but it wasn't enough and I scratched up my countertop pretty badly 😣
I just gave them another coat of paint ( just cleaned them and used 1 coat of paint , no sanding or primer this time ! They look new again ! I did a step by step tutorial on this site called new kitchen on a budget , if you want to see the process . I start with my cabinets , then move on to the countertops . Good luck !
What about a bartop look? It will look great! First, use a primer spray paint(make sure you tape off everything and tape plastic to cabinets)... then spray paint with a stone spray.... then use ENVIROTEX!!! It's like a bar top epoxy resin. It's fine for food to be on. You would mix it up, pour it on and use a blow torch to remove bubbles. You might want to make a frame for the sides of the countertop because the edges are tricky to get a smooth finish. Or you could put contact paper over them when you are pouring. Then go back and do the edges by hand with a brush. But whatever you do, cover the lower cabinets with plastic too because when it gets poured, it will drip down off the sides. Follow the directions on the box and you will love the result. For a few years after we did it, people thought it was granite. Good Luck!

We painted our COUNTERTOPS!! The system we used is super durable, no chipping, and still looks brand new one year later.
Thanks sounds good.
