At my old house we had a couple patches. We cut it down, then dug out what we could. Then drowned the area repeatedly with white vinegar. Took a while, but it worked. We had kids and pets and did not want to use chemicals.
Not easy to get rid of. You need to keep at this. If you leave any runners it will come back. I dug it out and repeated that several times a year for several years and finely got rid of it. Nasty stuff.
