Preventing them from hatching is the first defense, dump out any container that holds water, that’s their breeding ground. You can get granuals called mosquito bits, or the doughnut shaped dunk of mosquito bits

  • Mosquitoes are such a nuisance! There are several ways to keep them at bay, if that’s what is being asked... There are yard foggers (similar to a bug bomb for the indoors) that can be purchased at many home improvement stores that will repel mosquitoes in the yard. Citronella plants can also be planted around the yard or kept in pots where needed. Other ideas include torch lanterns that burn citronella oil or the classic bug zapper! Hope this helps!

You can get the flying insect sprays in spray cans, and I believe also in a type you attach to a hose and spray your yard just before you plan on being out. I have a can of Cutter that I spray around my veggie garden when I am going to work up there, it smells a lot like citronella. I get huge welts from gnats, for some reason, no reaction from mosquitoes any more. So many gnats this year! We use tiki torched with the citronella fluid and Citronelle candles out front in our sitting area. The citronella plants are actually a form of geranium that smells like citronella and helps keep the mosquitos away. We have a bug zapper that we hang on the corner of our patio and that seems to help out there, We have had ours for years and still works great, so it was worth the expense. It is a large one, but smaller ones covering a large area would work, too, if placed where a lot of activities take place. Make sure anything that holds water is changed very frequently, that is where they breed, in still water like dog dishes, kids swimming pools and bird baths. It only takes a few days to see the larvae swimming around in still water, I tried it one time with an ice cream bucket and it didn't take but a few days to see the little critters.
