Probably slugs or snails. Check under and around the hostas when it's dark. If you find the ugly things, you can put beer in an aluminum disposable cake or pie tin, and sink it in the ground. Slugs fall in and drown, so you'll have to empty the tin and put out more beer.
Or, you can use a product named Sluggo, which is organic and safe to use around pets. You sprinkle it around the hostas, slugs eat it and they die. You can buy Sluggo at Home Depot and other garden stores.
Possibly slugs. We have a big problem with slugs and snails that are doing the same.
Probably slugs. If the leaves are completely gone, then deer. Apparently hostas are delicious to animals. ;)
If you have deer in your neighborhood, they consider Hosta a salad bar.
A solution to holes in Hosta leaves is to put Epsom salt on the ground around the Hostas, the slugs/snails will crawl over it and dissolve. Just a sprinkle, do not get it on the plants, it will burn them, The ES will be a valuable nutrient to you plants.
