Small Living Room Lighting Ideas: How to Make a Wall Lamp/sconce
Light colored paint makes a room look larger, white ceilings also help. Then trim down the furniture. For example, when we bought a smaller home my husband gave his recliner away and bought a smaller glider/rocker with foot stool. We sold our large wooden dining table and bought one that has fold down sides to make it smaller or larger if needed. The point is, use small and few pieces of furniture, declutter the walls, declutter the floor, and add mirrors if you can. They make it seem larger also.

Monochromatic shades of the same color, and pale shades make a room appear larger. Then keep the scale of your furniture smaller and less of it to keep the room open. I always like mirrors to reflect more light and make a room appear larger.
Paint it a light and bright color!
I think you need to have light colors as well as strategically placed mirrors. I mean that was one of the tricks we used when we lived in a small apartment on the Upper West Side. It's called the Scandinavian design as far as I know and it fits really well for smaller spaces. I like it but I am kind of tired of it so when I bought a new apartment, which is significantly larger than my previous one, I promised myself that I will use a lot more colors and darker tones. I hired an internal designer and we met a few times and after a few weeks she brought me the drawings. I liked the initial ideas but what I loved the most was the personal study she designer for me. It looks like one of those Harvard Library rooms with dark tables and green couches. It honestly looks like one of those scenes from a movie. I was a little worried about the green couch thing since t is not a very popular color but while looking online for different options I came across this really cool website https://nyfurnitureoutlets.com/living-room-furniture/sectionals/filter-green that has a huge selection of sofas and sectionals. I love it. I think that f you guys are looking for cool furniture you should check it out. It's not as expensive as some other places I've seen and the quality is very good.
If it is in the budget, purchase 'apartment" sized furniture.
