Visit a proper tile store, not a big box home improvement center, the tile store will have proper trained individuals. Big box stores hire people off the street with no qualifications whosoever.
Hi, Jennifer!
When decided on and installing flooring, go with something that is durable and within the budget. Rectangular tiles are great and should be installed with the length of the tile or flooring plank running the length of the room. This will make for fewer cuts and is pleasing to the eye. As for the width, it is going to depend on the width of the bathroom. Wider tiles may not look right in a narrow bathroom - it can actually make the room look even narrower! If it is a square or a large room, either width should work.
Home improvement stores are a great place to start... The flooring options offered are budget-friendly, and perfect for the DIYer or they can set up a consultation with a professional. They should definitely be able to answer any questions you may have! I hope this helps!
I would do 12 x 18 and stagger (like bricks). I did this in my kitchen and love the look. If you can't find anything you like except square, you can stagger them and you will like the look much better. My sister did this and it's a 100% improvement over traditional lining them in a row.

Do you plan to remove it first before installing the new floor covering?
