How do I get rid trumpet vines?
Dig them out is the best! You can repeatedly spray with white vinegar, but will take a bit of time.
Agree with Naomi. Vines are very hardy and can grow trunks as big as trees. Dig wide around the base because that’s where the roots will spring alive again. You can-also use natural or chemical weedkillers.
this is for trees but also applies to woody stemmed/stalked vines.....Doesn't matter how big the tree is cut it off and pour undiluted concentrate of Round-Up on to the open trunk ASAP after you cut it before it heals/seals itself. Some plants do this in matter of seconds. Round-up.....it's absorbed thru plant leaves then into stem/stalk then root system killing plant. you need to add food coloring so you can tell where you are spraying ,hold sprayer down on plant leaves you are spraying, don't spray in wind/slightest breeze, don't get in wet solution(it dries quickly),wear disposable gloves.....follow the safety instructions on bottle it has always said "hazardous" the safety instructions have always been on containers.Buy concentrate & mixing yourself put undiluted on tree trunk and mix in sprayer for new growth & respray asap if you see any new growth and do not let new shoots plants get too big/strong. The more you kill just the tops/cut them off/pull out & don't get all of root system the more the roots/rhizomes spread underground, just keep looking for new plants starting thru out next month and spray it before it gets out of control some trees/vines are more invasive than others so will spread under ground at a faster rate. Get a good 2 gallon pump sprayer and not a back pack, because if it leaks on you well you could be joining all the civil suits of people who did not heed hazardous warnings.Round-Up works best when plant is sprayed during full growth cycle a few days after it's been cut off & new growth appears.
