DIY Repurposed Garden Trowel Flower
I'm always looking for fun and easy ways to add some whimsty to my gardens, and I love repurposing things to do just that.
Since I already had everything for this project the cost was next to nothing.
Like this old and rusty garden trowel.
A perfect candidate for a garden art makeover.
The first thing you need to do is take a wire brush to the rusty spots to make sure to get off any flaking bits.
If you have any concerns about the pointed end of the trowel, you could round it with a sander or just use a trowel that already has a more rounded end.
Then give your trowel a nice bath to clean wash any rusty residue.
I spray painted the trowel shovel part with some Tremclad Rust-covering spray paint in a white, and I left that cure for 24 hours.
Once that was dry I painted over that with two coats of a hot pink using a paint and primer combo.
And then the handle got two coats of a green spray paint and primer combo.
Once my trowel was all dry it was time to create my flower.
I used GOOP Adhesive to glue on clear glass beads.
And I taped them in place with painter's tape for about 15 minutes until they set, and then I let the flower sit for 24 hours to cure.
And here's my finished repurposed garden trowel lupin flower beside a real lupin in the garden. It would also look nice tucked into a planter.
And here it is with two others that I made using other trowels.

The time to do this project does not include spray paint drying time, and the $1 cost was based on me already having everything I needed.

This is so darn cute.
Really would brighten up a dark corner of the garden. A great summer craft project for the kids.
