I do not use baking soda, but here is my recipe, hope it helps Ricka. 1/3 cup Paster Paris and 1/3 cup cool water. Mix well. Add 1 cup latex paint any color. Mix well. This will cover a 6 drawer dresser once. Do not save this left over chalk paint. It does not keep.

I use calcium carbonate (chalk) which is really cheap to purchase on Amazon. Here is a link: https://amzn.to/2ly1YMD
I mix 1 cup of latex paint with 4 Tablespoons of calcium carbonate and 2 Tablespoons of water. The chalk paint is perfect each time.

I'm afraid of inconsistency. Dont want to waste my time. I just use Rustoleum brand chalk paint and top coat. Very affordable and can be made into any color. Plus it has a longer shelf life than home made.
