This is dependent on the bug type. Japanese beetles are easily killed with the sex lured Japanese beetle traps. To deter slugs, crunch up dried egg shells and sprinkle at base of plants. Slugs also can be lured into a shallow container of beer, (pie pan works well). They then drown in it.
Kathleen....We purchased Spectrum from Lowe's to spray our roses that were being eaten by Japanese beetles and it worked very well.
