Hi Kathleen, because they develop upper ( Adventitious roots)roots the root ball is small

To avoid root rot, a money tree needs a sandy, peat-moss-based soil and a pot with good drainage. Although it likes humidity in general, you should let its soil dry out between watering. A good schedule for most environments is to water when the top 2-4 inches of soil are dry.

Adventitious roots are those roots which arise on any part of the stem . These offer the plant the support it requires to cling on to any support. Adventitious roots first develop to obtain nourishment from the substratum. Later as the plant settles, it develops the primary root to obtain nourishment from the soil.

You could, but not necessary, just remember these plants are succulents like cactus and can easily be drowned, this is why you want sand i the mix as the courser the soil, the better drainage it will have, very happy to help you!

I think so because they are recommended to put in a 5" pot.
