How do I thoroughly clean a gas BBQ grill?
Our BBQ grill has been neglected a bit. We have no place to store indoors. It's quite a mess. Any suggestions on cleaning a grill are greatly appreciated. gas BBQ grill, all parts, lid, grease trap, inside walls, etc. Thank you. Cynthia.

Cynthia....My husband uses a steel brush and Easy Off but sprays with oils prior to grilling which will help with cleaning. Also he TRIES to do ASAP after using...at least removing worst build up with a scraper. We also leave ours out but it is under an eave and we use a grill cover. Hope this helps a little...I'm sure you will receive more ideas!
Your grill is a self cleaner. First use a degreaser for the exterior and the trap, then wipe out any large puddles of food debris or fats with a paper towel. Then turn the grill on high until it stops smoking. This could take 45 minutes to an hour. Turn off propane and allow to cool. Wipe out ashes.
Laura is correct. Here are some other options for you.

Or look up on the manufacturers website. My grill lives on my patio year round too. Right now in the heat of summer all meals are prepared on one of my grills.
We use mean green or GP66 degreaser.
I use oven cleaner on mine
Oven cleaner. Also steel wool soap pads (like SOS). But purchase a grill cover, they are on sale now. That will extend the life. Mine is 5 years old, and still just like new. If you cannot find one to fit, use a tarp, or at least an old plastic shower curtain. Outside grills are meant to be covered when not in use. Use a grill brush every time you use it.
I used Dollar Tree Awesome Grill and Oven Cleaner in the big black pump spray bottle and some round plastic scrubbies and some steel wool pads for the interior pipes on one of my clients neglected BBQs ..... came out almost like new.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to answer my question
For the occasional deep-clean, grill grates can be cleaned in the sink or washtub. This method is optional, but can be good for removing marinades and sauces. Soak the grates s in regular dish soap, or Goo Gone Grate Cleaner.
Use a sponge, Brillo Pad or a Commercial Grade Grill Brush to scrub your grates. Blackened surfaces are part of the seasoning process. Therefore, deep cleans should only be done occasionally.
