Hi Deanna! I had this same issue in my current home. The Subway style tile was a combination of browns, and didn't go well with my cabinets after painting. I didn't want to rip out and replace so I used one box of Rustoleum Tub & Tile paint to paint over it. I'm coming up on a year now, and it has held up very well. Also wipes down / cleans up easily.
