Get a very nice utility knife that has changeable blades. Don’t buy something from the dollar store, or you will hurt yourself. You need a knife & blades you can lean on. Carpet knives are a bit dangerous, but if you’re up to it, but one.
Advance the blade as far as it will go and about every 3 feet across the room, press hard and score completely through the carpet and the pad.
Pry it away from the wall in the tack strip, wear gloves, and yank it up. It’s going to be a lot of work to manhandle it, but you basically need to rip it out. That’s why I said 3 foot sections, because carpet is very heavy.
Roll’er up, tire off.
Cut the carpet into three foot wide strips. Pull the carpet up from a wall. Roll each strip and tie or tape it.
