How do I get a tub with standing water to drain?
At the drain site, if water not more than an inch, put i cup baking soda followed by i cup warm white vinegar. You may have to do it more than once.
use a clean plunger
You could use a snake made for this exact purpose. It's a very long tool with "teeth" cut down it's length. Put it the drain as far as it will go. Then twist and pull. The "teeth" will catch all the hair and soap muck from the drain. You can find them in any home improvement store like Menard's, Lowe's, etc. Effective and inexpensive.
Tweezers to pull out the clumps of hair in the drain. Be prepared- it is gross. Have a container to put it in.
This is a great tool to remove any hair or blockage that may be causing the backup. It's cheap and easy to use. https://www.homedepot.com/p/HDX-20-in-Hair-Snake-90830/324601746
Try one of those thin plastic hair grabbers first which should take care of a good portion of the issue. Then sprinkle baking soda down the drain, pour in some vinegar, let it sit for a bit, then rinse with hot water.
If none of the above work, you may need something stronger. I have used the drain cleaner from the dollar store, it works very well. Follow directions on the bottle.
Hi Tanya: Get all of the water out of the tub, even use a turkey baster if you have one, to get the water out of the drain. Then, get a 1/2 box of baking soda and pour it down the drain. Then, pour about a cup of vinegar and then, really quickly, use a cloth to stop up the drain AND the over flow opening, which shouldl be where the toggle for opening and closing the drain is. Hold this for a few minutes as it will fuzz up like mad. Then, when the fuzzing stops, pour a lot of hot water down the drain. DON'T DO THIS IF YOU HAVE USED ANYTHING LIKE DRAINO AS IT CAN FUZZ UP INTO YOUR FACE AND CAUSE PROBLEMS.
Pouring a pot of boiling water down the bathtub drain is all that's required. Next, fill the drain with a solution of one cup vinegar and one cup baking soda. After closing the filter or inserting the drain plug, give it five to ten minutes.
bend wire coat hanger and try to remove junk" Use Plumbers Plunger.
Hi Tanya, hope this helps you.
Repeat 1 more time. Test by filling the sink with water then opening the drain
all you need to do is pour a pot of boiling water down the bathtub drain. Then pour a mixture of one cup baking soda and one cup vinegar into the drain. Insert the drain plug, or close the filter, and wait 5–10 minutes. Finally, flush the drain with another pot of boiling water.
