How can I protect my hollylocks that are being eaten by a garden pest?

What is wrong with my hollyhocks? Something is eating the leaves, they look like they are lacy( and not in a pretty way). The flowers are beautiful but the total plant doesn't look healthy. Does any one else have that problem?

It could be Japanese Beetles. A spray with neem oil should help.
Take a picture to your local nursery and maybe a leaf. They will help and will have the products you need.
I think your hollyhocks are being chewed by Japanese Beetles. They are a common problem with Hollyhocks. They eat the soft parts of the leaves and leave the spine and veins behind. Doing this causes the leaves to look like lace. Neem oil will help control them.
i have deer and rabbits eating them. What can I do?
