That’s a pretty durable wax if it is true beeswax. Use fine sandpaper to remove the wax, then clean the door with warm water and baking soda. Make sure the door is completely dry before you stain or paint it. Best wishes, Jewell
You can also use a heat gun. Just melt it and scrape it off with a scraper. Just don’t get the heat gun too close to the wood or hold it in one place for too long. If you own, borrow, or buy a heat gun that has an adjustable heat range (which most of the newer guns do) start at the lowest setting.
No heat gun, will bubble finish. Ammonia removes wax.
