Can metal hurricane shutters be re-purposed as a porch roof?

Is this an existing porch with some other type of roofing? Do you want to put the shutters over the existing roof sheathing or will this be the main roofing material? Are the panels long enough to cover the whole length of the rafters or would you have to cut a piece and create another seam? You could re-purpose the shutters, but you may need to add to the existing framing to carry the weight and you would have to seal the overlaps to make it watertight. Is the roof peaked or does it butt up against the side of the house? That would be another location you need to make watertight with flashing. It's doable, but maybe not worth the trouble. And, it will make one hell of a racket in the rain, although I kind of like the sound. You can install a standing seam metal roof yourself if it's metal you are after.
Hi there, I think it really depends on the kind of look you want. Anything can be a roof "Technically" Using shutters you would get more of a "pergola" out of it because its not going to stop the weather. It may look really quite cool and, if you have the shutters and no restrictions from an HOW etc. I would so go for it!
I would use the shutters on the same idea of building any roof. Measure them from top to bottom and adjust your rafters accordingly so you have plenty of support under each shutter.
