The old seat can be removed and a new one can be woven using rush or splints. Here is an article that outlines the method used to weave the seat. I used splints to weave the seat for a chair and purchased the splints on eBay. It is time consuming but easy to do and definitely worth it! I hope this helps!
Hi Linda, if this is real rush (or even man made) weaving a rush seat is a difficult job. I don't really think an amateur with no professional help could do it easily. There are people who do this work.
I feel u should replace with a new rush seat. A lot of times at a senior center or adult workshop they give classes. I tried it BUT i’m Left handed and never really got the hang of it.. good luck
