You can strip the bed frames with a chemical stripper making sure you get down to bare wood. Then you can stain any color you want and finish with a coat of varnish. It would take quite a bit of work and time. An easier fix would be to use paint. You can use chalk paint and finish with a coat of poly. Very little prep work for that. You can also sand the glossy/shiny finish down so it looks dulled, clean well and use a primer--a regular primer NOT a paint with primer in it. Once you have it all primed you can used a acrylic latex paint in an enamel finish and paint with a brush. If you had a paint sprayer it would come out nice and smooth. You can also choose to spray paint once you have this primed and finish with a poly spray. You can purchase chalk paint in a spray can-Rustoleum Chalked is one brand and you will want to purchase the Rustoleum Clear Sealer that goes with this line as well. Do NOT try to use any other brand of sealer with this paint--I have--and it has a tendency to bubble and peel.
I vote for paint.
Hello! Have you considered Chalk paint?
I favor the Rustoleum products, their products and support are fabulous. Perhaps it might be available in a color —that you like?
Heres some helpful links, I hope this helps!
