I would not suggest trying to dye a rug that has many different colors or design in it. Maybe take it to a resale shop and see if you could trade it?

Please don't even try! SELL IT!! Buy something else!! (Maybe used) This exercise would be fraught with danger and be a complete waste of time and money!!!
Oriental rugs can be worth quite a bit of money. Take a picture of it, see if there's any tag on the back that tells you the fiber content and see what a rug dealer can tell you. If it's worth something they may buy if from you.
