How do I patch a hole in a hollow door?

The house I just bought has a hole in the garage side door. The door will eventually be replaced but I would like to have it look a bit better in the meantime. The hole is right in the middle, but does not go through.

Stuff the hollow core in the door with newspaper. Then spray foam (which will expand) to fill in the space. Once it's set, cut away excess. Then sand and paint.

If it will be replace eventually and the hole is right in the middle, you might want to hide it with a little sign with a greeting on it. You can either attach the greeting with strong double stick tape or with a nail since the door will be replaced anyway. Good luck!
