The unsafe finishes were lead paints.
Annie Sloan Chalk paint is safe. The wax is even safe for children by European standards. (stricter than the U.S.)

Paints etc. don't tend to have lead in them as they used to when I was young, so I don't think there will be a problem. Ask about Baby safe products where you buy your supplies, just incase! Did you know you can buy soft flexible trims to go over edges of baby equipment...........
