How can I root rose stems?

I read some where that you can root rose stems to grow. How do you plant them or do it ?

LInda, I have not done it, but I plan to try it with my roses: punch a hole in a potato and put in a fresh cut rose. Then bury the rose with potatoe in soil. The potato gives the rose stem potassium as well as moisture to help it root well.
My dad always wrapped in a paper towel and soaked in water with a bit of nutrient. Once roots began to have tiny hair like pieces growing, then just dig a hole to plant. Water and feed as you would any rose plant. February is the best time here (7b).
