I wouldn't paint it. Paint always peels and chips on tile after awhile. Get a fun area rug.
Hi Annie,
If you want to paint it, you can use latex paint then seal it with several coats of polycrylic. If you prep properly it should last well, however if you're concerned about chips and peeling as Kelli mentioned, you could look into epoxy paint. There are several 1 part epoxy coat paints on the market now. They aren't as thick as 2 part epoxy, but they work well on a floor. Talk to your local paint store - not big box store. They can often recommend a product that will do the job. The biggest part of any paint job is making sure you prep it properly. That's important. Read the label and follow every step. Also note that if you use a polyacrylic, you can add a coat yearly to keep the floor looking at it's best until you're ready to replace it. Wishing you the best.
