No different than on light wood. Just may have to do additional coats. Wash down with TSP, sand off sheen, Prime and paint.
Here's a website Sue that tells you how to distress for a shabby chic look. If you explore this site further there are lots of interesting tidbits for painting furniture. I have used Country Chic paint numerous times! It is fun to work with!

Hi ! Get 2 different colors of chalk paint , one that you want to be the top coat and another contrasting color to be the color that shows through from underneath . I recommend on getting a sealing wax to protect your work. This comes in in clear or antique finish , this goes on like a stain , rub it in then wipe it off . First wipe down the piece you are working on , clean it getting off dirt and dust . The paint the bottom color , let it dry , then paint the top coat and let that dry . Then take a fine - medium grit sandpaper and lightly scuff your piece on the edges and here and there. just do this lightly , so you take off the top coat of paint , and can see the other paint peeking through . When you have It looking like you want it to , use the sealing wax to protect your work ! Good luck & have fun !!!

Keep in mind when distressing the paint, that less is more. Distress in places that would naturally wear away, like corners and raised details. The center of your headboard for instance is unlikely to see much wear. But the edges would.
