The Best Time to Plant Roses
To plant roses consider your climate and rose needs. Roses love sunshine and moist roots. We plant our roses in the North on the South side of the house where the warm sunshine and protection of the foundation help protect it, and mulch around the base. In the Southwest we plant where there is sunshine but also shade for the heat of the day and mulch around the roots. Plant them up to the base of the plant like they came from the nursery. If You plant them from new shoots and rooting, be sure all roots are well covered. Pack the dirt down well around the roots of any rose plant. If you live in a damp/wet climate be sure to water only at the base as roses tend to get mold/mildew easily. Hope this helps.
We always dig a hole twice the size of the plant, add a bit of Miracle Gro, then plant. February seems to do best in zone 7b.
