How cold in temperature does it get where you live during the winter?
Agree with these responses. I'm on Long Island and occasionally some more warm-weather loving plants in tubs can survive outside IF they're thoroughly wrapped in burlap and protected from the wind and under an overhang. We managed to save a braided stemmed Hibiscus I didn't want to lose by somehow getting it indoors and into an unused room for the Winter, where it promptly dropped all of its leaves. However, it still made it through the Winter and leafed out again in early Spring--flowered again when we took it back outside. The next year we put the pot on wheels to save our backs, but it was still difficult. You can create a bit of a greenhouse-effect around your lemon tree but it should still be sheltered - in a shed, gazebo, up against the house and thoroughly wrapped and protected. Good luck with it--it's nice to preserve plants for the next flowering season.
