Hi this is Peggy. Sorry you got nail polish on you brass cat. Hope this will help you. Bring to Boil
The lacquer coating should peel away. Fish out the brass using tongs or a large spoon, being careful to protect your hands, and rinse in hot water from the tap. Once cooled, wipe over the brass with non-oily acetone nail polish remover to get rid of any stubborn flakes.Mar 19, 2018

Nail polish remover and a toothbrush. Rinse well. Then use white toothpaste and a damp toothbrush to clean the brass. Make sure the toothpaste foams up. I clean a lot of items I sell on Ebay with toothpaste.
Use nail polish remover with a q-tip and gently scrub until it's off.
Did you try Brasso?

I would try nail polish remover, but only a teeny bit on a q-tip and go slow so as not to remove any of the finish on the brass.
