I would do it on graph paper, drawing out the room to scale.
Many people don't know how to draw to scale. Use graph paper and use each square to equal 1 foot. Measure your furniture and room size. Draw the room using each square as a foot measurement then pencil in the furniture the same way using your measurements. use pencil so you can erase and change the room around.
Thank you Em..seems simple enough..I was actually thinking I would like to cut out movable papers for the furniture, even colored square..to get a sense of balance ..but the graph papers makes excellent and more accurate sense to begin..penciling in also more secure..imagine if I sneeze and furniture flies out of the house plan
I would use graph paper because it would be very difficult to find items to scale. Rather than drawing on the graph paper, cut out the furniture as well then hold in place with poster putty. That will allow you to easily move items until you find the perfect combination.
Hi Joan, here;s a link that shows you how to make your to scale plan. hope it helps you out!

I would use graph paper and have each square represent a certain length to help gauge sizing of everything
Building a house is something that people can do only in groups. It can't be done very well by yourself, and it can't be done at all without a lot of help.
Building a house is something that people can do only in groups. It can't be done very well by yourself, and it can't be done at all without a lot of help. When you buy a house, you are buying a house with someone else's help. The neighborhood is someone else's help. The plumbing, electrics, and heating, and insulation are all someone else's help. My advice is to hire a designer from https://www.boutiquehomeplans.com/modify-your-home-plan. I worked with them, and I can say that they are the experts on the market these days. I was very delighted with their work.
