How can I repaint a chalk painted leather couch?

I have been given a leather sofa and loveseat that were painted with chalk paint and waxed. They now have dark cracks. How can I repaint them?

The chalk paint is drying out your leather. You'll have to start over. First remove wax with ammonia which could make cracking worse. I think you need to start looking for a new sofa. Sorry.

You can try painting over them with chalk paint and rewaxing. If the chalk paint and wax have been on for a long while it is cured. You can paint over cured chalk paint and wax with more chalk paint. Because there are cracks it would be difficult to hide the cracks. When you paint over furniture like couches and loveseats with chalk paint and finish with wax it is a temporary fix that will only last for so long. You might consider furniture covers instead of repainting.

I agree, I would definitely start by removing the wax and existing chalk paint to restart over, chalk paint will not adhere to the existing wax surface
