I am looking for a way to clean the cast iron grates on a Kenmore gas stove. Obviously, nothing abrasive. I
I have seen posts recommending ammonia to clean cast iron. Will that remove the sticky residue that collects on them & the burner caps?
I would start with Bar Keepers Soft Scrub to breakdown the burnt items. Once its cleaned up, finish with Windex with Vinegar to give it a shine.
Lane....Weiman from most grocery stores works well on mine.
First, clean after EACH spill when the top has cooled down. I use Bio Cleaner paste and a Scrub Daddy sponge and everything comes off with a little effort. Every time you turn the burner off with burnt food on it you make it harder to clean.
Hi ! I use a product by Weimens glass glasstop cleaner and polish . It works GREAT !
In your case I would use a hot soapy sponge and dampen the areas with the burnt on stuff . Let it sit for about 10 minutes the use a plastic pot scrapper or plastic spatula to scrape off the excess food stuff , then wipe the area dry . They say you can use a razor blade on a glass surface , but NOT on a ceramic top !!! I am not brave enough to try it out , lol !!! Then after wiping the surface dry again use the glasstop cleaner rubbing it in all over the top , but concentrating on the messy areas . Do this with a paper towel . Then use a second paper towel to wipe off the cleaner and buff the glass top . If necessary re peat the process . Try to clean off your stove top at the end of each day , maybe not with the cleaner , but at least with soap and water and don't cook on a dirty surface , it will only damage the cooktop surface and your pans . Good luck !
Hi Lane,
Use "Bar Keeper Friend" or Any Ceramic top Oven Cleaner...........Available in large Grocery Stores and DIY's
I use Sprayway glass cleaner, It has no ammonia and cleans the glass top great. You can find it in Lowes or Home Depot.
