Can you give me tips on repairing and painting my slate roof?
I own a house built in 1910 with a slate roof. I had several loose and missing tiles on the roof. I am thinking to install some metal hooks on a slate roof. The hooks are to support solar panels. It will be virtually impossible to use a roof ladder while installing the rails on the hooks. This may not sound like a regular question but I want to know if I can walk on the roof without causing any damage? Don't worry, I will have a harness clipped around me. I am also planning to change the color of the slate roof. Can you give me some suggestions on new which color should I go for?

Light Gray is versatile and should work well. What is your home color?
Tending more toward the gray, black will absorb the heat.
I would go with a dark gray. It's very neutral.
I think dark grey would look great!
You may not be able to paint a slate roof and have it last. You’d need specific types of sealants which are not inexpensive. You should really reach out to a pro with this question and about repairs or attaching anything to it. Further, consult a structural engineer to make sure your framing is strong enough to support solar panels.
